Soy Wax

Soy wax: Soy wax comes from soybeans, which are renewable and a good and clean burn! Many leading candle companies use paraffin wax because it’s inexpensive and easy to pour. Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum and has been found to contain known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) such as benzene and toluene, which have been linked to many health problems, in addition to cancer.

Essential Oils: We have chosen to never use synthetic perfume, also known as “fragrance oils” in favor of only using plant-based options, mainly, essential oils. Essential oils are derived from plants as opposed to being developed in a lab. Many candles choose “fragrance oils” because they are inexpensive compared to essential oils and easier to work with thanks to additives. Unfortunately, many fragrance oils contain toxic ingredients like phthalates, formaldehyde and benzene derivatives and toluene (you could be getting a double dose of some of these if you also use paraffin wax!).

With all of this in mind, we recognize that there is an effort out there to do better by way of fragrance oils, and some manufacturers offer “clean” options. Still, according to the National Academy of Sciences, “95% of chemicals in synthetic fragrances come from petroleum and include benzene derivatives, toluene, and other carcinogenic compounds”. With that we say, to each their own! Kudos to the few manufacturers offering truly non-toxic synthetics and candle company’s that utilize those! We are still going to go with nature.

Wooden Wick: Our wicks are made from natural wood and are non-toxic, lead-free, and biodegradable. 

Awesome, unique cow art on each label: We hired Julia Johnson, talented local artist, and good friend. She drew each label by hand, just for us. With candle vessels so charming, you can’t help but to recycle them! How will you recycle yours? Pen jar? Jewelry holder?

In summation, our candles are high quality because of everything they are made up of. They do not smell overly strong, artificial or “perfumey”. But instead smell real, because they are made with only real ingredients! That’s right, only natural ingredients, hand poured in small batches by real folk in Vermont.
